ZOARA

Zoara lived in a nest with her three brothers and one sister. Their Mama and Papa would make sure they were fed and warm. One day their parent told all the little fledglings it was time to leave the nest and learn to fly. They were nervous, except for Zoara. Zoara loved to do her own thing and didn’t follow her parent’s rules very well. Zoara got into trouble a lot and made everyone very mad. She could be rude and bad and didn’t care about anyone but herself.

The day had come and all the fledglings were excited and looking forward to their first day up in the beautiful sky and out and about soaring through the clouds. When the time was near they all made a promise to each other to stay close by to one another in case of a problem. But not Zoara. She said she knew what to do and didn’t need anybody to help her and they better leave her alone and not fly into her path.

Their parent was standing on the edge of the nest and looked at all them with a big smile and a small sigh. The instructions were clear. They would all stand on the edge of the nest and begin to flap their wings and up into the sky they would fly. They were to stay together and follow whatever their parent would do. Go left and right, up and down, but only after following their parent.

Each of the fledgling flapped their wings to get used to the feeling and then up they each went. All except Zoara. She just jumped out of the nest without flapping her wings and she began to fall!!! All of a sudden her parent swooped down and lifted her up with their big wing. She was told to start flapping her wings and to stay up in the air and follow. Zoara took a deep breath and began to flap her wings with all her might. Her fledgling brothers and sister just shook their heads at her. She ignored them and instead of staying close to the group she decided to go off on her on. She screamed back at them to leave her alone and stuck her tongue out at them. Zoara was not listening or following!!

Zoara looked around but everyone was gone! She didn’t know where she was and became very scared. She flew up and down but there were no brothers or sisters, or parents to be seen. She began to think about how warm it was in the nest and how her Mama and Papa fed her and loved her. She began to think of how sometimes she would sing silly songs with her fledgling siblings. They were her friends too. She thought about family, friendship and caring about others and wishing she was safe and warm in her nest. She was sad about all the rude things she said and how bad she would act.

Suddenly out of nowhere came her parent!! Hooray she yelled! Then she saw all her fledgling brothers, sisters, her family friends. She was overjoyed! She was happy! She knew she was in trouble and would have to change her ways. Zoara didn’t care because she had learned some big life lessons.

What do you think Zoara learned?
